30 May 2010

Dear Friends - Parishioners and families of Saint Ann Parish,

On of the greatest gifts that comes to the Christian community and to each parish community is the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism.  For many of us we have seen and experienced this celebration in somewhat of a private ceremony or celebration.  This was not the intent of the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council.  We read in the rite of Baptism “to bring out the paschal character of baptism, it is recommended that the sacrament be celebrated during the Eater Vigil or on Sunday, when the Church commemorates the Lord’s resurrection.”  This is so that the whole community may be present and the necessary relationship between Baptism and Eucharist may be clearly seen. .   As part of our family Mass initiative we have reinitiated the celebration of the Sacrament more regularly within the Sunday Liturgy.

This is a unique opportunity for us as a parish family to welcome our new families and newly initiated Catholic Christians into our parish life. It will be our regular practice for a monthly celebration of the sacrament of baptism within the Sunday Family Mass on a monthly basis.  I hope that you enjoy our celebrations of the Sacraments and together that we may be joining of sacramental recipients and their families as that join and participate fully in our Catholic faith.

In His love,

Fr. Sean
