Autism Fundraiser & Comedy Night
As many of you know, and for those of you who are not aware, it's been a year since our son, Dano, was diagnosed with autism. It has been a busy year with therapies, 30 hours per week, and doctor appointments, but he is making wonderful progress. He turns 3 at the end of August and he continues to make great strides with his speech and overall communication. We are lucky in the sense that Dano is on the higher functioning end of the spectrum. I have done a lot of reading over the past year and I was shocked at the increasing impact of autism in today's world. 1 in 70 boys born will be diagnosed with autism. Autism is a brain disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. When diagnosed early, there are many great therapies that can minimize the effects and help get a child on the path to a wonderful life.
Kathy and I have decided to participate in the Greater Boston "Walk Now for Autism" fundraiser event on September 26th, to raise money for Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks has grown into the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We are hoping to do our part in helping. Our goal is to raise at least $2,000 but hoping to hit or stretch goal of raising $5,000.
I know a lot of you already support great causes like cancer, diabetes, etc...so anything you would be willing to donate to our team for the Boston Autism Speaks Walk would be greatly appreciated. You can donate in two ways. The first is a general donation to team DC5, named after our son, Daniel Clark V, via the below link to our team's website.
www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/greaterboston/dano
The other way to donate is to join us on September 18th, at our Comedy Night Fundraiser. All proceeds from this event will go directly to our team.
The details for the show are as follows:
When: Saturday, September 18, 2010
Time: Doors open at 7:30, show to start at 8:30
Where: Teachers Union Hall, 180 Mt Vernon St, Dorchester, (hall is next to Bayside Expo Center)
Admission: $20 per ticket, Tables of 10 can be reserved by contacting Kathy via email or calling/texting
617-584-8336 617-584-8336

Cash only bar
You can buy tickets to the comedy night directly from Kathy, or me, at: 18 Helena Road, Dorchester, MA 02122 or reach out to us via email at dclark15@msn.com or kathyclark9@msn.com. You can also use the above link and pay directly to the Autism Walk's website. If you use the website link, we created a team member on Team DC5 called "comedy night fundraiser". You can click on the link and make your donation for a ticket on that page. It will allow us to keep track of the headcount for the upcoming comedy show.
Please feel free to pass this email along to anyone else you think may be interested. It will be a fun night to have a lot of laughs, good way to catch up with old friends and raise some money for a good cause.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and hope to see you on September 18th!
